AI in psychotherapy practice

How the work after the session runs with AI support — documentation, course of therapy and application preparation. Each page also states what the AI explicitly does not do, and where that statement is backed up. What the processes look like in Psymira — step by step, including who carries out which step — is described in the help section (in German).

  • AI-assisted documentation in psychotherapy

AI-assisted documentation means that a session is recorded, automatically transcribed and a draft for the session documentation is created from it. The transcript is not the documentation but its raw material: what is professionally relevant is decided by the psychotherapist. AI shortens the path from the session to a reviewable text — it replaces neither the professional assessment nor the responsibility for the result.

  • Transcribing therapy sessions: what speech recognition does and does not do

A transcription converts speech into text. It recognises words; it does not understand them. The result is a raw text containing everything that was said — filler words, self-corrections and recognition errors. Those who know the difference between this raw text and professional documentation can use both sensibly; those who overlook it carry errors over.

  • Summarising several therapy sessions into a course of therapy

A progress summary condenses several documented sessions into one coherent text. It does not answer what was said in a single session, but what has developed across the sessions. Technically this is a different process from transcription: it is based not on audio files but on sessions that have already been documented.

  • Preparing draft applications from existing records

An application assistant brings existing records — documented session notes, transcripts and selected documents — together into a structured draft application. It does not fill in or submit an application; it creates an editable text that must be reviewed, supplemented and taken responsibility for. The professional decision remains entirely with the psychotherapist.
